Career Counselling Centre for Youth
Career Counselling Centre for Youth (CDZdM) was founded in 1998 on the initiative of the city of Poznań as part of the European Union project called "Ecos Ouverture Youthemploy". The aim of the Centre at that time was to combat unemployment among graduates of Poznań vocational schools. This project was implemented together with partners from Dublin in Ireland and Brighton and Hove in Great Britain. After the completion of the project and summing up of its effectiveness, the authorities of Poznań decided to continue the institution's activities on a permanent basis in an institutional form. On July 16, 2002, the Poznań City Council established the Career Counselling Centre for Youth as an independent budget unit. Since then, the institution, working in the field of social policy, performs tasks in the field of vocational guidance and career development, as well as activation of entrepreneurial abilities among young people. The Centre provides support to students in public primary and secondary schools in Poznań. All services provided by Centre are free of charge.
The strategic goals of the institution include:
- support for students of Poznań schools in determining and planning individual development paths,
- promotion of entrepreneurial ideas among students and activities in the field of expanding knowledge about the labour market and education,
- creation of a system of cooperation between educational institutions and institutions of the Ministry of Labour working in the field of professional counselling.
The tasks of the Centre are carried out by
three teams of employees: vocational guidance counsellors for primary school students, vocational guidance counsellors for secondary school students and analysts of the economy and the labour market (Labour Market and Economy Observatory of Poznan Agglomeration). The consultants' responsibilities also include the development of strategic documents for schools in Poznań (general documents of the intra-school system of vocational guidance in Poznań for secondary general education schools, secondary vocational education schools and lower secondary vocational schools, standards of vocational guidance at schools in Poznań , review of literature and tools for use by professional consultants and teachers of entrepreneurship), informational materials and teaching aids for students, parents and teachers. Career guidance specialists update and add resources of the Centre on the website. Students can also apply for free individual counselling with a career counsellor. From November 15, 2022, the Counseling Point for Professional Orientation for Children from Ukraine started working at Career Counselling Centre for Youth. The purpose of it is to support the planning of the educational and professional path of children and youth who came to Poland from Ukraine after February 24, 2022. This support is addressed to students who want to continue their studies in secondary schools or universities in Poznań.
The services are free and provided in the form of:
- individual consultations, for which is possible to apply through the application form,
- group classes and lectures organized in primary and secondary schools of Poznań (for secondary general education schools, secondary vocational education schools and lower secondary vocational schools).
The consultants also prepare informational materials in the Ukrainian language, which are available on the website. Consultations and classes at schools in Poznań are held with the participation of Ukrainian and Russian translators.
The activity of the Counseling Point for Professional Orientation for Children from Ukraine is supported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
